Places to Eat
As we stayed in B&B's or Budget Hotels we tended to spend everyday eating out at local restaurants. Obviously we made some good and some bad choices, but hopefully this section will prevent you from making the bad choices.
As we ate out at many places (most days twice!!) we have included the places that really stood out.
If you are interested in adding you restaurant recommendation, then please contact us.
There is a local French restaurant on the "Route de Quincy" (A140) opposite the Beefeater. You can't miss this place; if you stay at the Hotel Akena it is a 10 minute walk from there.
We can't remember the name of this place, but the food is exquisite, strongly recommend the Salmon & Steak.
It is pricey & the portions are small, but aren't all posh restaurants!?
Cafe between Lyon and Cannes
On route from Lyon to Cannes there is no better route than the D93 leading onto the other D roads. This little place is on this route, it is near the top of one of the mountains, in the summer it's lovely to sit outside, you see bike after bike riding past & the food is great. It's a little cafe that does baguettes, cold & hot drinks. The baguettes are top quality, they tasted like the bread was freshly baked & the ingredients were freshly grown. The place isn't too pricey & well worth the stop.
In the village of Valfurva, (road name via Frodolfo 16) around 10 miles before Bormio when heading down from Italy is this little Pizzeria. If you are staying at the Hotel Nordik it is a 5 minute walk, they are in the same village.
This pizzeria makes fresh pizza in a stone oven as shown in picture, the price is reasonable and the food is tasteful. As the menu states and is reflected in the taste, everything is again grown locally, from the meat to the vegetables. Good food for a reasonable price.
If you fancy a great Italian when in Interlaken, you will not beat this place. The pasta there is divine, the seafood is fresh and the starter salad heavenly. This is a little place that has a homely feel to it, with great service, reasonable prices and excellent food it would be a crime to visit Interlaken and not visit this little place. This restaurant, again one we cannot remember the name of, is located down the main high street in Interlaken heading towards the Interlaken West Train Station. Continue walking down with the station on your right and the place isn't much further on the same side.
This is by far the best place we have eaten on our First Tour of Europe. This place is called Aztec and can be found right underneath Hotel Blume on Jungfraustrasse 30. When in Interlaken you can pick up a map of the area.
The food here was top quality at a great price, this is a real taste of Mexico, the waiters were always checking we were ok and there is outside as well as inside seating. The salad wasn't as great as the little Italian restaurant, but that was more than compensated by the rest of the food. 10/10, a must if you visit Interlaken.
